Originally the requirements for membership of the Vets were to be a fingerprint expert within the Metroploitan Police Fingerprint Branch with 25 years service.

Over the years the criteria has changed reflecting the various transitions within the bureau.

Full Membership of the association still requires the original qualification of being an expert within the branch but now with 20 years service.

Associate membership is open to any fingerprint expert who:

Started their career in the Fingerprint Branch, New Scotland Yard, acheived 'Expert' status within the branch and has completed a minimum of 20yrs within the discipline.
